Language Instruction- Filipino/Tagalog

Filipino is the name of the National Language of the Philippines. Before 1987, it was known as Tagalog or Pilipino. In fact, the Filipino language course at the University of Michigan was called Tagalog before 1999.

Tagalog, now Filipino, language course was instituted to satisfy foreign language requirements for an undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan in 1976.

The center is committed to promoting a broader and deeper understanding of Southeast Asia and its peoples, cultures, and historiesby providing resources for faculty, students and the community to learn and disseminate knowledge about the region.
