CIC Foreign Language Enhancement Program (FLEP)

Is there a foreign language that you would like to study, but it is not available at your home university?

Graduate students may apply for scholarships of $2,000 available from the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) for summer language study at one of the participating universities (see below). This program is intended to help students take advantage of language offerings not available at their own university, but available at another CIC member university.

Scholarships of $2,000 are intended to cover living expenses incurred while attending another CIC host institution during the summer session. FLEP recipients also may apply for the Traveling Scholar Program, which enables them to attend a host CIC institution while paying tuition and fees at their home institution. Course credit earned is accepted as University credit and not transfer credit.

CIC Member Universities: University of Chicago, University of Illinois-UC, Indiana University, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, University of Minnesota, Northwestern University, Ohio State University, Pennsylvania State University, Purdue University, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Eligibility: Applicants must be pursuing a graduate degree at one of the twelve participating CIC institutions. Study may be undertaken at any other participating CIC university. FLEP scholarships may not be used for language study at a student's home institution and must be used for a "less commonly taught" language.

Deadline: TBA
