Albert D. Moscotti Best Paper Competition

The Albert D. Moscotti Best Paper Awards are supported by a bequest from the Albert D. Moscotti Trust. In 2003, Dr. Moscotti bestowed a gift on the Center in recognition of its work educating US veterans "under most difficult circumstances following World War II." Dr. Moscotti, who passed away in 2004, was Professor Emeritus of Asian Studies at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. He received his doctorate from Yale University in 1950, with a dissertation on Burma, and he earned an MA degree from the University of Michigan in 1947.

To support excellence in education on Southeast Asia, Michigan graduate students in any field are invited to submit a paper on a topic dealing with the region or any part of it. To be awarded at the end of the academic year, the paper will have been, or is to be, delivered at a national conference; or it has been, or will be, accepted for publication in a refereed journal. The prize carries a value of $500.

The submission deadline is March 15. The manuscript copy to be turned in to the office of CSEAS must be typed or in print form and free of marginalia. The winning paper will be chosen by a committee comprised of the Center's Director, program associate, and a faculty associate.

The center is committed to promoting a broader and deeper understanding of Southeast Asia and its peoples, cultures, and historiesby providing resources for faculty, students and the community to learn and disseminate knowledge about the region.
