CSEAS Language Tutorial funding
What are these funds? CSEAS is offering funds to subsidize language tutorials for students who are interested in learning a modern area language not offered here at the university. This new program was developed to assist graduate students as they prepare for fieldwork abroad. Funds will be paid to the tutor directly and no course credit will be issued.
How do I apply? First find an experienced tutor willing to work with you and your schedule (faculty advisors may be able to provide recommendations). Write a proposal (limited to one page) which discusses why you need the training, with whom you plan to study (please include their contact information, too) and the timeframe involved. Please submit your proposal to Gigi Gates, Student Services Administrator, by January 15 for language work that will begin in the winter semester and by September 15 for language work that will begin in the fall semester.
Then what happens? Your proposals will be reviewed by our Student Services Administrator and the Center Director. We'll notify you within 10 days after the deadline. Preference will be given to graduate students who can demonstrate need for language proficiency in their proposed fieldwork or research. The center will arrange for the tutor to complete the employment paperwork. After the tutor is hired, you may begin studies.
The center is committed to promoting a broader and deeper understanding of Southeast Asia and its peoples, cultures, and historiesby providing resources for faculty, students and the community to learn and disseminate knowledge about the region.
